The amount of the grants is adjusted to the country you are going to. The grants are provided through universities and colleges. If you are going to do an internship in Spain, it is not always necessary to apply for a NIE-number. There are two situations where you will need to apply for a NIE, namely: when you receive an internship fee from a Spanish company or when you stay longer than three months consecutively in Spain. However, this is legally required but not always respected. When you have applied for a NIE-number it is valid forever, so if you have plans to stay in Spain after your internship, you do not have to apply for the NIE again.
